Is Baby Steps Health Centre like other Child Health Centres?

A.

Baby Steps Health Centre is a child health centre with a difference. A difference created by medical and nursing expertise together with women’s health and paediatric physiotherapists, psychologists, speech pathologists and dieticians. Baby Steps is an integrated, multidisciplinary private health care centre to assist families in the early stages of parenting. All the services new families need are under the one roof. Together all these experts in mother/baby health, have created a whole new approach to family wellness.

Who can visit Baby Steps Health Centre?

A.

The Baby Steps Health Centre concept was developed to help parents make a good start to parenting and guide families through the first few months with their baby. Appointments can be made for mothers, fathers, babies and children. Having a team of experienced allied health professionals supporting the Baby Steps team allows our centre to create a new approach to family wellness.

Within our centre Genesis Physiotherapy specialise in women’s health and can help with pelvic floor rehabilitation, sexual pain syndromes, mastitis and nipple care.

Diet by D’Zyne offer a lifestyle solution to nutrition and life-long healthy eating. At Baby Steps Health Centre their Accredited Practising Dietitian has a special interest in nutrition and health for mothers and babies.

Helen Beaton's Touch Move & Play Physiotherapy Services specialises in early intervention and physical rehabilitation programs for infants, children and adolescents.

Perth Speech Pathology provides speech pathology across the lifespan. They provide services to babies, children and teenagers and also provide swallowing and communication services to adults.

Life Resolutions Psychology have substantial experience in mental health and wellbeing during pregnancy and parenthood. Their services include assessment and counselling

Do I need to make an appointment for ‘Ask us Anything’ weigh in sessions with the Child Health Nurse?

A.

No. We run 2 sessions during the week to allow you to ‘drop in’ during the allocated times to chat with one of experienced Child Health Nurses and meet other parents.

Can I talk to a Child Health Nurse or Lactation Consultant on the telephone?

A.

Yes. If available our Child Health Nurses and Lactation Consultants are happy to have a brief chat with you on the phone to help you decided what type of assistance you need.

Do your Child Health Nurses do Purple Book Health Checks?

A.

Yes. Our experienced Child Health Nurses can complete the health checks in your babies purple health book. We can also answer any other questions you may have about your baby.

Does Baby Steps Health Centre do childhood immunisations?

A.

We can advise you about the timing and type of vaccination for your child, and we can coordinate the vaccinations with your own GP or local GPs connected to Baby Steps.

Does Baby Steps Health Centre do tongue tie release on newborns?

A.

Yes. Tongue-tie is a condition in which the thin piece of skin under the baby’s tongue is abnormally short and may restrict the movement of the tongue. The most immediate impact of a tongue-tie is on a baby’s ability to breastfeed effectively therefore it is important to have it attended to promptly to improve the baby’s ability to breastfeed.

Do Baby Steps Health Centre GP Obstetricians do 6 week checks for newborns?

A.

Yes, our GP Obstetricians and Child Health Nurses perform thorough 1 hour assessments of 6 week old babies. We perform a physical, neurological and developmental assessment and address any parental concerns you may have. We correspond with your Obstetrician and family GP to ensure there is good communication between your health care providers.

How long are Baby Steps Health Centre appointments?

A.

Our appointments are one hour in length to ensure we can address all of your concerns and answer any questions you have about you and your baby. If you wish to return for a follow up appointment it would be 30 minutes unless you request a longer appointment. Our Home Visits are also one hour in length but if the Child Health Nurse or Lactation Consultant requires to stay longer extra fees will apply.

What does it cost to see a Doctor at Baby Steps Health Centre?

A.

The Medical Health Check appointment is one hour in length and costs $295. If you have Medicare the rebate is at least $141.70. If you have reached your safety net you may be entitled to a larger rebate.

When you book a Vasectomy at Baby Steps you have an initial 15 minute consultation that is bulk billed. The procedure costs a total $495 with a Medicare rebate of approximately $164.50.

What does it cost to see a Child Health Nurse at Baby Steps Health Centre?

A.

One of our experienced Child Health Nurses can see you at our centre or visit you at home. The centre appointment is one hour in length and costs $100. Unfortunately there is no rebate available from Medicare at this time. If you choose to have a home visit it will cost an additional $25. If the consultation lasts longer than one hour you will incur extra charges. If you live further than 15km from Baby Steps Health Centre you will be charged an extra travel allowance of $20.

What does it cost to see a Lactation Consultant at Baby Steps Health Centre?

A.

One of our experienced Lactation Consultants can see you at our centre or visit you at home. The centre appointment is one hour in length and costs $100. Unfortunately there is no rebate available from Medicare at this time. If you choose to have a home visit it will cost an additional $25. If the consultation lasts longer than one hour you will incur extra charges. If you live further than 15km from Baby Steps Health Centre you will be charged an extra travel allowance of $20.

A.

Yes. Our Child Health Nurses and Lactation Consultants can visit you in the comfort of your own home. It will cost an additional $25 for them to visit you. If the consultation lasts longer than one hour you will incur extra charges. If you live further than 15km from Baby Steps Health Centre you will be charged an extra travel allowance of $20.

What if I need out of hours care?

A.

There is no after hours service available at Baby Steps Health Centre. For after hour’s medical attention, if the matter is an emergency then call 000. If the matter is not urgent, we will be happy to take your call and assist you the next working day.

What if there is an emergency?

A.

If there is an emergency dial 000 for assistance.

Q?

Will Baby Steps Health Centre send me a reminder about my appointment?

A.

Yes, if you have consented to receiving text reminders when making your appointment you will be sent a reminder the day before. If you need to cancel or reschedule please call the centre.

Do you bulk bill?

A.

Baby Steps is a private billing practise and Medicare rebates are available only from services provided by our GPs/ Doctors.

Is there on site parking?

A.

Yes, we have 6 marked car bays in the car park in front of Baby Steps. If these are occupied there is free parking on Marlow and Flynn Streets.

Q?

Is there wheel chair access at Baby Steps Health Centre?

A.

Yes, there is a ramp at the Western end of the car park. We also have disabled toilets available in our centre.
