Mirena and Implanon
Our Doctors at Baby Steps Health Centre can offer contraceptive advice and insertion and removal of Mirena and Implanon. Please contact our centre and ask for an appointment to explore your options.
MIRENA is a hormone-releasing soft, flexible plastic implant placed in your uterus to prevent pregnancy for as long as you want for up to 5 years. Mirena also treats heavy periods in women. It is highly effective, easily inserted by an experienced doctor and easily removed. It delivers small amounts of progestin locally into your uterus, with few side effects. Not all doctors have the skills or experience to insert a Mirena. Baby Steps GP Obstetricians have this expertise. You can make an appointment with them to discuss the use of this contraceptive and get a prescription for the Mirena prior to arranging for it to be inserted.
IMPLANON is a hormone-releasing plastic match sized rod inserted under the skin of your upper arm, for use by women to prevent pregnancy for up to 3 years. It contains a progestin hormone that provides very effective contraception, is easily inserted and removed and allows you to not worry about taking tablets regularly. It can cause irregular bleeding in some women and so you should discuss the value and potential side effects with our GP Obstetrician and get a prescription if Implanon is chosen.
