If you are concerned about a child’s development, behaviour, learning, or medical needs, we encourage you to:
👉 Refer the family to see a GP at Baby Steps.
GPs at Baby Steps have extensive training in child development, early parenting, and newborn behaviour. They can:
- Assess the child and family in detail
- Help interpret previous reports and recommendations
- Provide practical strategies and management plans
- Guide families through therapy options and waitlists
- Write referrals for paediatricians or other specialists when appropriate
Families remain under your ongoing care — our role is simply to support you and your patient with additional input, not to replace your relationship.
How Refferals Work
How medical referrals work (GPs and other doctors)
To refer a patient to a GP or medical doctor practising at Baby Steps:
- Prepare your referral letter — include the child’s details, parent/carer contact information, relevant history, and key clinical questions.
- Email the referral to 📧 bookings@babystepshealth.com.au
- Ask the family to arrange their own appointment — they can book online via the Baby Steps website or by contacting reception.
Referrals are attached to the child’s file for the clinician to review ahead of the consultation.
Where appropriate, clinicians can provide written feedback or reports that you and the family can use to guide ongoing care.
How allied health referrals work
To refer a child for physiotherapy, speech pathology, occupational therapy, dietetics, psychology, music therapy, or continence/pelvic health:
- Prepare a referral or summary letter — include the child’s details, presenting concerns, relevant assessments, and therapy goals.
- Email the referral to 📧 bookings@babystepshealth.com.au
- Ask the family to book their own appointment — online or by contacting Baby Steps reception.
Parents can also self-refer to most allied health services, but a referral letter helps maintain coordinated care and clear communication.
Where appropriate, clinicians can provide written feedback or reports that you and the family can use to guide ongoing care.
Collaborative care and continuity
Referring to Baby Steps does not mean transferring your patient away from you.
The clinicians practising at Baby Steps aim to:
- Answer specific clinical questions
- Offer targeted assessment or support
- Help families navigate complex developmental or health pathways
- Then return them to your care for ongoing management
We see ourselves as partners in care — here to support you and your patients when extra help is needed.
