Paediatric General Surgical Consultation

Some childhood concerns need a surgical eye. A lump that wasn’t there before. A hernia noticed at bath time. A finding on an early scan. Paediatric general surgery focuses on understanding these presentations in the context of a growing body — what can be watched and what should be treated. Many conditions are common and manageable. A specialist consultation brings clarity, careful judgement and a clear plan forward.

Surgical Expertise

Paediatric urological surgery requires precision, careful judgement and a deep understanding of developing anatomy. Every procedure is approached with meticulous planning — balancing what needs to be done now with what a child may outgrow over time. Where surgery is recommended, it is performed with techniques designed to minimise discomfort, reduce risk and support optimal long-term outcomes.

Clinical Judgement & Competency

Not every condition requires intervention. A core part of paediatric urology is knowing when to operate — and when not to. Thorough assessment, review of imaging and careful consideration of growth and development guide every decision. Families are given clear explanations of options, expected outcomes and risks, so decisions feel informed and steady.

Hernias in Children

Hernias are often something a parent spots first — a small swelling in the groin during a nappy change, or a belly button that pops out when a baby cries. They can look dramatic, but most follow very predictable patterns.

Inguinal hernias don’t close on their own and are usually repaired to prevent future complications. Umbilical hernias, however, commonly settle with time. The role of a surgical review is to confirm exactly what type it is, assess risk, and advise on timing — balancing safety with the understanding that children are still growing and changing.
