What we do

Our Eczema Nurse Specialist is a leader in her field. She works closely with parents, developing a personalised eczema management plan with advice on the correct use of eczema treatments (how much, how often, where and how to apply), and arranges follow up and referrals where necessary. She collaborates with other health providers including Child Health Nurses, Pharmacists, General Practitioners, Dermatologists, Immunologists, Paediatricians and Dieticians to ensure the best outcomes for children.

Jemma Weidinger

Eczema Nurse Specialist​

Jemma is the founder of Children’s Eczema Care. She is a registered nurse and nurse practitioner, with postgraduate studies in Child Health and Allergy Nursing and a Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner). She has over 20 years of experience in healthcare, most of this working with children, at Perth Children’s Hospital as well as children’s hospitals in New South Wales and Victoria. 

Her roles have included nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, clinical nurse and staff development nurse. Special interests include eczema and allergy in children, parent support, education and research. Outside of her private practice, Jemma also works in the Department of Dermatology, Immunology and Allergy at Perth Children’s Hospital. Her role includes seeing and treating children with eczema, establishing a new rapid eczema allergy support service for infants and young children, and developing eczema resources to educate and support health professionals. She offers face to face and Telehealth appointments. During the consultation and after taking a detailed history, each family will leave with an individual management plan and guidance on how to choose suitable moisturisers and sunscreens. She also offers education on how to best introduce allergenic foods for infants with eczema.

Meetings are held several times a year, or at the request of Baby Steps for specific clinical advice. It is lead by a chairperson and educational coordinator, elected by the group of participating health practitioners.
