Paediatric General Surgeons

Paediatric general surgeons care for children who require surgical assessment and management for conditions affecting the abdomen, chest wall, skin and soft tissues. Some concerns are present from birth, while others arise during infancy, childhood or adolescence. Specialist assessment helps determine whether a condition requires monitoring, day surgery, a more complex procedure, or simply reassurance.

Paediatric general surgeons undergo advanced subspecialty training in operating on infants and children. Their work demands precision, anatomical expertise and experience with the full spectrum of childhood surgical conditions — from common procedures to more complex presentations.

Care is delivered with a high level of technical competency, meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of how surgery impacts a growing body, both immediately and long term.

As of 2026, Dr Japinder operates at Perth Children’s Hospital and Joondalup Hospital (both public and private lists).

The Clinical Guidance Committee advise Baby Steps on all clinical matters effecting the health practitioners within our centre. It’s members gather together to discuss and develop guidelines relating to:

  • The COVID Pandemic and adherence to public health regulations
  • Education and professional development for participating health practitioners
  • The appropriate response to patient complaints of a clinical nature
  • Optimal ways to support the health practitioners at Baby Steps

Meetings are held several times a year, or at the request of Baby Steps for specific clinical advice. It is lead by a chairperson and educational coordinator, elected by the group of participating health practitioners.
