Finding a baby GP who gets it

Many doctors are experienced with babies and will do everything they can to ensure that they’re healthy and looked after, getting to the bottom of things and sharing their knowledge with new parents. What’s rare is finding a GP who also takes parents’ anxiety into account and places equal importance on reducing it. Feeling heard and understood – that your worries and concerns are acknowledged and accepted before they are treated – is a crucial step to gaining confidence in parenting. GPs who inspire this confidence always have their doors open; for guidance, expert advice or simply the reassurance needed to carry on.

Doctors and paediatric health

The changes that occur during childhood are often as overwhelming for parents as they are for the child experiencing them. Insights from a GP specially trained in child development can bridge the gap between worry and understanding. While the social, physical and behavioural changes that occur throughout childhood can be confusing, getting the right advice can help the nonsensical make sense.

GPs fluent in parent

GPs gifted with the ability to speak ‘parent’ have a special understanding of the issues (physical or otherwise) faced by adults in their day-to-day. Whether you need help with pregnancy or postnatal care, managing mastitis, parenting advice or contraception, GPs with parents in mind have a unique ability to dial back overwhelm and provide lasting support at the time you need it most.
